I’m a non-native English speaker, so I use simple sentences and standard vocabulary to avoid mistakes. My work gets flagged more often than my classmates’. Is the system biased?

There is a structural bias in many detection systems. Non-native writers often use safer, more regular language, which overlaps with AI-generated patterns. This makes them statistically more likely to be misclassified, even when their work is fully human-written.

This raises fairness concerns. When certain groups are consistently flagged due to language background or writing style, the problem moves beyond accuracy into equity and ethical responsibility.
